Founded in 1938 as a kindergarten for children fleeing Nazi Europe, the pluralistic Leo Baeck Education Center, rooted in the humanistic values of Progressive Judaism and committed to the founders’ vision that the State of Israel be a force for good in the world, is one of Israel’s finest institutions of values-based education, community outreach and social action.
The Leo Baeck Education Center, with its diverse student body of 2,285 pre-school to 12th graders, including 6 classes for PDD (autistic spectrum) students, a Community Centre and Sports Centre with 11 satellite outreach centres serving thousands of Haifa’s most disadvantaged residents, and Congregation Ohel Avraham at its spiritual heart, is a unique blend of Avodah, Torah and Gmilut Chasadim.
Learn, Lead, Serve – The Leo Baeck Education Center is committed on every level to the “ingathering of the exiles”, Tikkun Olam and to the well being of democratic Israeli society. It is deeply committed to the founders’ vision of the State of Israel to be a force for good in the world and to eliminate inequality and discrimination in Israeli society.
