AHD is a non-governmental organisation of local Negev Bedouin academics, public servants and university graduates established in 2006, dedicated to advancing the Negev Bedouin community. Among the founding group members are tenured and non-tenured professors, scholars, public servants, and the brightest graduate students. Their most important project is the Ahed High School for Science that was established in 2009, and is recognized by the Ministry of Education as a school for Excellence in Science.
The school aims to aims to cultivate excellence and rigour combined with leadership development, social awareness and civic responsibility, while the objective of this endeavour is to enable acceptance of Bedouin students to the bio-sciences faculties of leading Israeli universities.
It intends to enable its students to participate in the broad high-tech era as fully achieving equals and to move toward being fully participating members of Israeli society and the global economic future. They believe that the creation of this school is the single most important action that can be done to raise the overall level in the Negev Bedouin community.
